Question:
How long should one take glucosamine? Are there any breaks in the treatment? Glucosamine sulfate
Answer:
Glucosamine is a product that should ideally be used continuously, without breaks. It serves as “nutrition” for the cartilage and stimulates the production of synovial fluid. If you stop taking it or take breaks, it can no longer have this effect, and the beneficial effect will disappear as quickly as the first improvements were observed (usually within a month, although it can vary from a week to six months).
For this reason, we recommend the continuous use of glucosamine. There is no need to pause or stop the treatment after a certain period of time. Continuous use is safe: scientific studies have shown that glucosamine can be used without problems for up to three consecutive years. There have been no studies for a longer period (or perhaps the results have not yet been published), but there is no reason to assume that continuous use is unsafe.
Glucosamine has been used for over 40 years without issues by millions of people.
Question:
The chemical vitamin B’s mess up my gastrointestinal system and I didn’t feel better. I tried one fermented from foods and it had a type of gum in it. I felt better than I ever had since some gastrointestinal surgeries 20 years ago. I don’t know if the lemon in yours would be a bladder irritant. Any thoughts on this?
Answer:
Our Natural Vitamin B does not contain any type of gum. It contains extracts from guave, holy basil and lemon peel. The only addition to this concentrated fruit powder is rice starch (0.2 grams per capsule) which is needed to help the powder flow into the capsules during the filling process.
Unfortunately we don’t know if the lemon extract will be a bladder irritant for you. The powder still contains properties of the guava, holy basil and lemon peel. If lemon peel normally is a bladder irritant for you, it’s possible that this supplement will be too. There is unfortunately no other way to predict this but to try it out.
Question:
I would like to know if you are in possession of the IFOS-certificate?
Answer:
Contrary to what the name ‘IFOS-certificate’ implies, IFOS is in no way related to a government organisation that checks the quality of Omega-3 fish oil. It is in fact a commercial company from the United States that offers companies the option to check their Omega-3 products on pollution and in case of a good result the company grants an IFOS-certificate. The certificate is not acknowledged by any government organisation. In itself the certificate is a welcome initiative.
For the consumer the quality of fish oil should always be guaranteed. Since our seas are becoming more and more polluted is it important that Omega-3 will be free from pollutions. For that reason we chose the product Marinoil C38, of the Dutch manufacturer Lipid Nutrition who is renowned for its high purity. Furthermore, we have every batch checked by an independent laboratory on the presence of heavy metals, dioxins and other pollutions. In fact that is the same what happens with the IFOS-certificate. All test results on our Omega-3 are without exception excellent!
Question:
My 7,5-year old dog has osteoarthritis, what would you advise? Glucosamine or chondroitin? Or both? Now I use Gluco Dog Forte of which I have to give 6 tablets, that is a lot for one day. The costs for 30 days amount to €25.
Answer:
If you don’t like the high costs and the amount of capsules, then our glucosamine is indeed an alternative. Below you will find the recommended dosages:
– Up to 15 kg in weight: 1 capsule of 750 mg glucosamine every two days
– 15-30 kg in weight: 1 capsule of 750 mg glucosamine per day
– 30-40 kg in weight: 1 to 2 capsules of 750 mg glucosamine per day
– 40 kg in weight or more: 2 capsules of 750 mg glucosamine per day
If you give the maximum dosage Glucodog, it means that your dog will probably weigh more than 40 kg. You will have to give him 2 capsules of glucosamine a day. A package of 180 capsules of €19,90 can be used for three months (€6,65 monthly). For a better result you can complement the food with chondroitin, of which you can give 1 capsule a day. A package of 180 capsules (€29,90 and €5 monthly) will last at least 6 months.
All capsules can be given at once, it is not necessary to spread the ingestion throughout the day. It makes no difference for the effect. Yet, it is important that the dog takes the capsules together with his food. The dog will most likely eat the soft capsules when they are entirely mixed in the food. If not, it is possible to open the capsules and spread the powder into the dog food.
Question:
For years I have been taking 2 glucosamine tablets a day. I consider start using chondroitin as well, but don’t like the idea of swallowing more tablets a day. How is the effect if I take one capsule from both supplements? Is there an alternative?
Answer:
It is hard to give a concrete answer, since the effects of the supplements differs from person to person (depending on metabolism, the affected joints, the nature of the symptoms). It is possible that 1 capsule of glucosamine and 1 capsule of chondroitin will have the same effect for you as 2 capsules of glucosamine, but it is also thinkable that the symptoms will increase. To find out what the effect will be for you, you will just have to try one capsule of both supplements for a while.
There are other alternatives, like our product Arthro-5, but from this product you would have to take more capsules, which will not be an option for you.
Question:
I need 1500 mg glucosamine, but I see you only offer 750 mg. The amount is too low for me. Do you also have 1500mg? I need a 1500 mg tablet a day.
Answer:
When you take two of our 750 mg capsules a day you will receive the wished 1500 mg glucosamine. We don’t deliver 1500 mg tablets, because it is a qualitative inferior product: the tablet is much too big, with sharp edges, and therefore hard to swallow.
Question:
I would like to know what the capsule shell of a fish oil capsule is made of. I am allergic to pork and beef.
Answer:
The capsule shell of fish oil (Omega-3) is made of fish gelatin. No pork or beef has been processed in these capsule shells! The product has been entirely extracted from fish and therefore suited for people who are allergic like you, for vegetarians who eat fish and for people who choose fish oil on account of their religious beliefs (halal, kosher).
This, however, does not apply for capsules for glucosamine, chondroitin and Arthro-5, which are extracted from normal gelatin. By the way these capsules can easily be opened, after which the powder can be dissolved in water, yogurt and fruit juice.
Question:
Can you tell me if Omega-3 helps you concentrate? Our 15-year old daughter is now using another product of the company **** that works well for her. But the product is pretty expensive. Your brand is a lot less expensive and sold in a bigger sized package. The capsules she uses now contains 500 mg fish oil of which 350 mg Omega-3 (250 mg DHA, 40 mg EPA). Can you compare this to your Omega-3 product?
Answer:
We cannot predict if Omega-3 helps you concentrate better. Some people will experience this effect, others won’t. But if the product of **** works for your daughter, we can assume it has this positive effect for her.
There is a big chance that she will benefit from our product as well. In every capsule you can find 210 mg of EPA and 150 mg of DHA. That is the natural proportion in fish oil. With the other product the proportion is slightly different, with more emphasis on EPA. We do not advocate that; we leave the oil as much intact as possible. We also believe that a higher concentration of DHA or a higher concentration of EPA – what we find in some other products – is not necessarily better. Everyone can use DHA and EPA. Everyone can benefit from DHA and EPA. For a while EPA was thought to be better for the body structure, but meanwhile that has become an outdated notion.
We are convinced that our Omega-3 – a brand product of the Dutch company Lipid Nutrition – will be as beneficial for your daughter and besides a lot cheaper. There is no reason whatsoever to ask for a much higher price.
Question:
I received the ordered glucosamine. I still use calcium tablets for my joints, can I continue using them? Or does glucosamine contain enough calcium?
Answer:
Calcium tablets are needed for the bones. Together with vitamin D calcium helps prevents osteoporosis. Glucosamine is not meant for this cause.
Glucosamine does not contain any calcium. So, it is best if you continue using your calcium tablets. Make sure that your tablets also contain enough vitamin D. Or else that you spend enough time outdoors in the sun, so that your body can produce enough vitamin D.
Question:
According to your scientific insights, what is the maximum allowed dosage of glucosamine a day? Can a woman around their fifties take circa 3000 mg on a daily basis? My mother is using two tablets of 750 mg a day and wants to raise the amount to 4 tablets. I wanted to check the safety of this high dosage with you.
Answer:
We advise against this. A higher dosage of 3000 mg will probably not have any more effect. Moreover, the chance of side effects will become greater. Such a high dosage can have a negative impact on the insulin sensitivity and may lead to problems involving the blood sugar level on the long term.
If glucosamine does not have the wished effect at the recommended amount, it is more safe and effective to start combining glucosamine with chondroitin (1200 mg a day).
Another even better supplement that can replace glucosamine and chondroitin is Arthro-5. It does not only contain glucosamine and chondroitin, but also MSM, ASU and Hyal-Joint.
