Question:
I have osteoarthritis in my shoulder. I heard that glucosamine cream is hard to obtain. Do you know where I can purchase this cream? Or can I order directly from you?
Answer:
Because there is no scientific evidence for the effect of glucosamine cream, we chose not to sell glucosamine cream. It is not clear if in meaningful quantities glucosamine can be absorbed through the skin and if that were the case, if it were to reach the joint through the underlying tissues. I consider that chance to be very small.
Question:
With interest I studied the products on your website and I consider purchase. But before I will decide on that, I would love to hear if I can find an online user panel, particularly for the Arthro-5 product.
Answer:
Unfortunately currently there are hardly any websites on which people can exchange experiences concerning products like glucosamine, chondroitin and Arthro-5. The few sites you can find, are often used by people who only intend to promote their product, and thus who do not have very objective views.
Arthro-5 has only been on the market since the beginning of 2009, which explains that not a large amount of people have shared their experiences on the Internet. Although we receive mainly positive feedback from our clients, that however will not give you an objective picture.
Be aware of the fact that if someone has good (or bad) experiences that they not automatically would apply for you. Every human being is different. Approximately 80% of the users benefit from the product, meaning that 20% do not benefit from it. In most cases 2 months use (2 bottles) would be enough to determine if a product is beneficial to someone.
Question:
Apart from the medication we received from our veterinarian I also consider buying glucosamine for our dog who suffers from osteoarthritis. How long will it take before we can expect improvement?
Answer:
In dogs with cartilage problems as a result of dysplasia, the effect of glucosamine can be noticed within a month. The dog will start walking smoother. We estimate that at the least 4 out of 5 dogs with dysplasia will benefit from the use of glucosamine.
Question:
We use Omega 6-9 1000 mg. Apart from that we use your Omega-3. Do you have an-all-in-one product?
Answer:
You can find Omega-9 in large quantities of olive oil. Encapsulation is far too expensive. Taking a spoon of olive oil a day will do just fine. By the way the body can produce the Omega-9 fatty acid (oleic acid) by its self. It is not an essential fatty acid.
Omega-6 can already be found in our western diet in a too large extent. That is why we only sell Omega-3.
Question:
I heard that there is a difference in glucosamine hydrochloride and glucosamine sulfate. What is the difference?
Answer:
Almost all scientific research has been done with glucosamine sulfate. For that reason glucosamine sulfate is used by most brands, including all brands that have registered glucosamine as a drug.
Glucosamine hydrochloride is a mild form. Little research has been done and in practice they seem less effective. Glucosamine hydrochloride has as advantage because of its mildness, that there is less chance of a sensitive stomach or sensitive bowels. When using glucosamine sulfate 3 to 5 percent of the users suffer from a sensitive stomach or sensitive bowels. So they could better use glucosamine hydrochlorid.
Question:
This week we went to the veterinarian with our dog. Unfortunately he discovered osteoarthritis with our dog in his left hip and at the front vertebrae. He was given pain killers, but we don’t want him to be permanently dependant on them. Now glucosamine came to my attention. Could you perhaps give me some information on the usage? Our dog is 9,5 years old and weighs 6,5 kilos.
Answer:
For dogs with hip osteoarthritis glucosamine normally works very well (90% of the dogs show improvement). Most of the time there are signs of hip and elbow dysplasia. A defect in the shape of the tissues of the joint can be found. Consequently the cartilage is overloaded resulting in the emergence of secondary osteoarthritis. Especially for this type of osteoarthritis glucosamine works above average for as well people as animals.
We are not experienced when it comes to the treatment of osteoarthritis at the front vertebrae in dogs. We only have little experience with people. Here the combination of glucosamine with chondroitin shows improvement after a year with people suffering from osteoarthritis at the vertebral disc space. A faster result can be achieved when it concerns osteoarthritis of the facet joints of the vertebrae. The dosage for a dog of 6,5 kilos is one third to a half capsule a day.
Question:
I am running out of my supply of Glucosamine capsules quicker than usual, ever since I have been giving my dog, weighing 28 kilos, 1 capsule a day. I believe that it is has been a good idea, since she limps less than before.
Answer:
Dogs react extraordinary well on glucosamine. It is estimated that 90% of the dogs with elbow and hip problems benefit from it. The dosage you are giving, is exactly right.
Question:
Is it right that glucosamine and chondroitin do not work, since the active substances cannot be entered sufficiently in the bloodstream? What is your opinion on that?
Answer:
The concentration of substances found in the bloodstream, are relevant for the effectiveness. Critics have been claiming for a long time that glucosamine could not be effective because it hardly reaches the bloodstream and thus does not reach in a meaningful amount the joints.
The mechanism of action of many natural and pharmaceutical substances is not clear. For many years it was thought that glucosamine and chondroitin were nutrients for the articular cartilage. Later the hypothesis was suggested that they are semiochemicals that in small concentrations are already effective.
Recently we encountered a new concept: glucosamine and chondroitin have an effect on the biofilm of damaging bacteria that can be present along the intestinal wall. However, we cannot assess how strong the basis is for this last theory. We chose to keep aloof from this discussion. What really counts is the effect people experience from glucosamine and chondroitin.
